I think everyone started knitting this way. Its great for working on your tension, and fine tuning how you are most comfortable holding the yarn. Whether you knit english or continental, the humble dish cloth has been made for generations, a staple in almost every kitchen.
My knitting teacher taught me the simple dishcloth and encouraged me to learn to knit continental. I have crocheted for more than 25 years, so continental seemed like the perfect fit for someone who was used to holding the yarn in my left hand. Made with cotton yarn (bernat handy crafter shown here) I have mastered the art of squeezing two cloths from one 50 gram ball using a pair of 4.5mm needles. I love to make these when we drive to our cottage or on mornings as i sit on the deck having a cup of coffee. I could go on about how great these little cloths are but we all know.
